Live Long and Prosper

It was 40 years ago today that I became a Trekkie or Trekker (whichever you want to call it). I was one year, one month and two days old when Star Trek first took to the airwaves on NBC. Do I remember that first broadcast? No. But I remember watching Star Trek as a toddler. I remember not understanding the significance of the Apollo 11 moon landing because we already had space ships that were way out among the stars. Surely we didn't bypass the moon on the Enterprise!
That was when my mother -- who was responsible for introducing me to Kirk, Spock and company -- had to explain to me what was fact and fiction on television.
Since the original series aired, I have literally been a lifelong fan. In my adult years I started attending Star Trek conventions. As a reporter I even interviewed several of the cast members. I have seen in person all of the original cast members except the late DeForrest Kelley. I have seen many others from the four spin-off shows.
I'm very grateful to Star Trek for countless hours of fun and entertainment. Thank you also for such a positive vision of the future and for boldly going where few television shows have gone before. May the franchise live long and prosper!
